In the Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy,
each department has a Special R & D wing and they strive
to open the new era in pharmaceutical care and drug therapy.
The research labs are provided with highly sophisticated equipments
like High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Double
beam UV - visible Spectrophotometer, highly automated 8 stage
Dissolution Test apparatus, sonicators, incubators, etc. to
envisage perfect outcome.
The department of pharmaceutics is highly concentrating on
the Novel Drug Delivery Systems like microencapsulation, nanoparticles,
liposomes, transdermal drug delivery systems and sustained
release dosage forms. In the pharmaceutical biotechnology
lab (R&D) is keen in studies related newer bacterial strains
and vaccines.
The department
of pharmacognosy is specialized in studies about indigenous
herbal plants. Isolation, identification and estimation of
new compounds from the medicinal plants, development and standardization
of herbal formulations are the core areas of work being carried
out in this department.
The R & D wing of pharmaceutical chemistry department
carries out works on synthesis of newer molecules as well
as search for newer drugs from marine sponges. Various synthetic
drugs like Anti HIV, anti histaminic, anti-inflammatory and
analgesic activities were developed. The pharmaceutical analytical
lab works round the clock in view of developing newer, rapid,
precise and accurate analytical techniques for drug materials
as such and those present in formulations.
The research activities of pharmacology department are integrated
with other departments and various traditional Indian Medicines
(Sidha and Auyurvedic Products) are being tested scientifically.
The exact pharmacological pathways are being traced here.
Apart from this research works related to aphrodisiacs, anti
diabatic, hepato-protective, diuretic, drugs acting on CNS
(stimulants and depressants) etc., are being studied in this
lab.
